Pick of the Week: Black Sabbath – Electric Funeral
Heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath are perhaps best known for their bombastic guitar riffs found in popular songs such as "Iron Man" or "Paranoid". Tony Iommi crafted many of rock's finest riffs that have inspired generations of guitarists. This week's pick is "Electric Funeral", a somewhat more obscure track from side two of their sophomore album, Paranoid.
"Electric Funeral" features a symmetrical guitar riff in the key of E minor. It is played at a slow and brooding pace and for this reason can be a great riff for beginning players to work on their hammer-on and vibrato techniques.
So, crank up your amp, kick on the distortion and have fun with this classic metal riff. To nail the guitar tone, try using a wah pedal for some rocking fun!
