Pick of the Week: Metallica – Fade to Black
When I first took up the guitar those many years ago, there were several bands that captured my imagination and inspired me to practice every day to improve my skills. Metallica was one of those bands, and this week's pick is a perfect example of what made old-school Metallica so great.
The guitar parts of "Fade to Black" require a technical mastery of several elements that are beneficial to guitarists of any style or genre. The intro alone has arpeggios, pick patterns, chord inversions, hammer-ons, and pull-offs. For a guitarist interested in working on their technical chops, this can be a rewarding song to work on while also being a ton of fun to play!
