Pick of the Week: ACDC – Thunderstruck
This week's pick comes from the high energy rock group ACDC. "Thunderstruck" first hit the airwaves in 1990 and was the featured single for ACDC's album, The Razor's Edge. This track features an iconic guitar riff in the intro with a prodigious amount of hammer-ons and pull-offs. In this arrangement, I have simplified the lick to contain only pull-offs. Once the patterns and technique is fully mastered, the student can then try to incorporate hammer-ons for a one-handed playing experience.
Begin by playing the phrases slowly and keeping an accurate count. Focus on snapping each note off for a clear and loud pull-off. Once mastered, increase the tempo and put the phrases together.
Not only does this riff sound awesome, it is also a lot of fun to play!
